Bi-Monthly Professional Development Meeting: Technology & Adolescent Sexual Health
July Topic: How to talk about (online) pornography with young people
Presented by: De-Andrea Johnson, MSW, LCSW
Since its peak in 1991, the Missouri teen birth rate has declined over 60%. During that same time period, there have been rapid changes in technology, including access to the internet and smart phones, which have had a significant impact on the lives of teens. Child Trends reports that just over half of teens in grades 7 through 12 report looking up health information online. Adult who work with youth are not always able to keep up with new technologies and how young people use them. We invite all TPPP members to explore how technology is impacting adolescent sexual health through our 2018 professional development meetings.
OBJECTIVES: We would like each speaker to include the following objectives as related to their topic area.
a) At the end of each session, participants will understand the impact of technology on adolescent relationships.
b) At the end of each session, participants will be able to access new resources to support the sexual health of adolescents.
c) By the end of the learning series, participants will have an understanding of rapidly changing technologies and how to stay current.
